The Republic is ours!
Freedom isn’t free! Commonly we here this when we discuss the
heavy costs incurred by our soldiers serving our country and their respective
families. The cost of freedom however extends far beyond this in the grand
scheme though. Each and every one of us
as citizens pays a cost for freedom. We
give up safety, we give up stability, we give up ease of life for freedom. Over the course of this nations existence people
have been trading freedom for things like security. How really though does the currency transfer
over. Freedom is no different than
money, we have a finite amount of it and at some point the bank of liberty will
run dry. Using freedom as currency is a
major problem. I don’t believe when our
founding fathers discussed taxation without representation, that they were
talking about money. The reality is that
back in 1776, money was not what it is today.
Many people got their day to day needs by using trade and barter
methods. I honestly believe that they
were referring to freedom as the item being taxed. With every regulation imposed on them they
saw their freedom eroded. They came to
understand and enjoy life away from the home government, and began living as
their own community. The brave settlers
of America found freedom on our shores, and did not wish to give that up. This was the cause for their great war. This is the main reason why they stress the
importance of individual freedoms in all the founding documents.
With all that being said, how is it that we came to use
freedom as currency? With all power
comes corruption. It is just human
nature. We will never be able to eliminate
the corruption of power hungry individuals, without the use of individuals who
themselves could turn power hungry and corrupt. Those who seek more power can
only gain it by infringing upon the freedom of those whom they wish to lord
over. Since the American public
collectively do not stand up and fight the tyranny, we have used the only
currency accepted by tyrants to get things. Freedom! Unfortunately, generations past started using
freedom as currency, and like a hood rat winning the lotto, they bought a bunch
of useless shit that in the end does nothing to help anything outside of their head.
A big problem with any currency is that it is subject to inflation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
consumer price index, America has an average inflation rate of 1.38% per
year. If we apply inflation to freedom
as a currency, we see that it takes about 2600% more today to get the same
things as back in 1776. Considering the
high cost of freedom, why are we so willing to just trade it away for less than
pennies on the dollar.
We have given up so much that as a nation today we would be
completely unrecognizable by our founding fathers. The amount of soldiers who have died to
ensure our freedoms are not removed is ridiculous when you actually realize we
are just turning them over for next to nothing.
1,500,000 plus soldiers have given their lives since the inception of
our nation while serving. 625,000 of
which died right here on American soil during the civil war. Whether anyone likes it or not both sides of
our first civil war were fighting for freedom, but I digress. At the end of the day, the sacrifice made by
American soldiers and their families should not be traded away as
currency. It was famously said by Ben
Franklin, that “those who would give up essential liberty for temporary
security, deserve neither and would lose both”.
Even if you take into account the fact that this statement was made in
1755 in reference to taxing lands that were not taxable under the laws at the
time to gain frontier security, the words are still powerful. He was not willing to tax the Penn Family for
the land now known as Pennsylvania to offer security that would not benefit
them in any way. Essentially he refused
to infringe on the freedom of one to protect another. Benjamin Franklin is arguably the most influential
of the founding fathers, and he knew without a doubt before the inception of
America that freedom should not be used as currency.
We need to stop giving up things we did not earn, so others
can sleep better at night. There is no
reason for us to continue feeding the animal who sits back and gets fat off the
meat of our children. We need to take
back our freedoms. We need to stand up
as a society, united and strong, and say enough is enough. No longer will we trade the blood of our kin
for the false promises and lack of follow through they call security. We need to put every legislator, senator,
representative, governor, mayor, justice, and president on notice. Today we take back the lands those who came
before us have given away one piece at a time.
Today we fight to not only maintain what freedom we have left, but we
fight to restore those freedoms lost by those who came before. Ours sons and our daughters will not know
freedom any other way. We do not fight
for ourselves, we fight for those who paid into the bank of liberty before us,
as well as those who will pay in the future.
We fight so our children can say with pride that they are American. We fight so that our nation returns to that
which our founding fathers intended for our nation. United
we Stand today to put America back on track.
Today, the power of the Republic returns to We the People!
